Sport

We gained Specialist Sports College status in 2000 and sport plays an important role in the day to day life of students. As a result of all the hard work by students, staff and coaches the college is truly developing its reputation as a centre of excellence. Our student athletes achieve fantastic levels of performance in several sports especially in our four focus sports: Table Tennis, Volleyball, Judo in partnership with Greenhouse and Rugby in partnership with Harlequins RFC.

A combination of modern purpose-built sports facilities and specialist coaches, some of whom are nationally recognised athletes in their own right, ensure we have the capability to identify and nurture sporting talent and develop these students to a very high standard. We have gold medallists and students chosen to play for England in a number of different disciplines.

All students, not just our elite athletes, are encouraged to participate in sport both before, during and after school and they are taught to enjoy sport as part of a healthy lifestyle. Sport is taught on a rotating basis so that students get the chance to try a number of different sports including gymnastics, swimming, basketball, health-related fitness, cricket, athletics, football, indoor rowing and hockey, and find the ones they get the most personal enjoyment from.

Students who wish to participate beyond recreational sport are encouraged to gain professional qualifications. We have links with Tooting & Mitcham Football Club and run a post-16 academy for 50 students so that they have the opportunity to gain professional qualifications whilst they are apprentices at the club.
