Called to England Volleyball squad
20 Jan 2011 - 1:24pmStudents from Ernest Bevin College have been selected for the England Cadet (Under 16) Volleyball squad. The boys, all aged 15, will join the 12-strong squad on a tour to Austria at the end of January and compete against sides from other European countries.
Head Volleyball coach John Lowney said, “It is a real achievement for these boys to make the England squad and we hope they will do well in the tournament.”
Leon Chambers and Temsegen Samuel will fly out to Austria on 26 January and the squad will train together before playing in a match play competition against sides from Austria, Italy, Lichtenstein, Germany and Finland.
“I have never been to Austria before so it is very exciting to have this opportunity,” said Temsegen. “Not many people can say they have got to play for the England cadet squad.”
“Last year I represented England and I was the youngest player in the squad,” said Leon. “I am really pleased to have been picked for the squad again.”
Another Ernest Bevin College pupil Tajorn Brown is on the reserve list for this tour so will only go to Austria if another player drops out. Tajorn has represented England three times previously.
