ADMISSION CRITERIA

Notes

1. A child looked after is a child in the care of a local authority or provided with accommodation by that authority, under Section 22 of the Children's Act 1989.

2. Applications made on acute medical grounds must be supported by a current letter from a specialist health professional. Applications made on exceptional social grounds must be supported by a current letter from a social worker or other care professional working with the family The letters must give reasons why the child's condition or circumstances make it necessary for the child to attend the college, and the difficulties that would be caused if the child had to attend an alternative school, If this information is not provided by the application closing date, the application will not be considered under this criterion. The information will be considered by a School Placement Panel who will advise the Director of Children's Services on the decision. The Panel reserves the right to request further professional advice where necessary.

3. A sibling is a full brother or sister, a step/half brother or sister living at the same address, a child who is living as part of the family by reason of a court order, or a child who has been placed with foster carers as a result of being looked after by a local authority.

All applicants will apply on an equal footing and will not need to specify under which category they are applying.



Category 1 Places
60 places will be allocated by reference to general ability to those applicants with the highest scores in the Wandsworth Year 6 test.

Category 2 Places
120 places will be allocated without reference to general ability. Where applications for admission exceed the number of places available, the following criteria will be applied in this order:

1. children looked after (see note 1);

2. applicants with a professionally supported acute medical need or exceptional social need for a place at the college, as decided by the Director of Children's Services, advised by a School Placement Panel (see note 2);

3. applicants not admitted under Category 1, who have a sibling (see note 3) attending the college on the date of admission, and whose sibling was:

a) admitted under Category 1 or Category 2 before September 2008; or

b) admitted under Category 2 from September 2008; or

c) admitted under Category 1 from September 2008, but whose address was within the distance from the college which would have qualified for a Category 2 place on the date of their admission.

4. applicants who live nearest to the college by the shortest walking route with street lighting, as measured by the Council's Geographical Information System.
