We were awarded specialist Sports College status in 2000 and students benefit from participating in a wide programme of activities for all abilities. Following the success of our Sports College status we were awarded a second specialism in Mathematics and Computing in 2004.
Sports College Status:
Sports Specialist Status plays an important part in the life of the college. Sports Colleges were introduced in 1997 as part of the government's Specialist School Initiative with the aim of being focal points of excellence in PE and to use sport to drive improvements in other subjects and whole school issues.
The college has four focus sports of Judo, Table Tennis, Volleyball (in partnership with Greenhouse) and Rugby (in partnership with Harlequins). It also regularly produces team success and individual champions in football, swimming, cricket and athletics as well as our specialist sports.
Maths & Computing College Status
We have developed a second specialism in Mathematics and Computing. We are now a local centre for excellence in Maths and Computing and seek to influence achievement in these subjects both within the local community and with other partnerships schools.
