EBC is part of the GET SET Network, the Olympic 2012 Education Programme: our fantastic sports facilities were opened by Dame Kelly Holmes in 2007.

Dame Kelly took three special assemblies for the whole school with the principals of the college

Some of the boys got to hold Dame Kelly's two Gold medals from the 2004 Athens Olympics for 800m and 1500m as she passed them around the students

Students at the college felt really privileged and inspired to meet such a great athlete

There were even more students wanting to meet Dame Kelly in the new sports hall

With the help of Ryan Dinham and Leon Baptiste from the Team B&Q mentoring initiative, Dame Kelly put students through their paces

Dame Kelly joined in and impressed upon the boys the importance of a good warm up routine

"The college has produced some high profile sports people," said Dame Kelly and "There are currently many potential sports stars."

EBC had another Olympic visitor, Lord Coe, chairman of the Olympic Committee for London 2012, visits Ernest Bevin College.

Lord Coe was here to confirm that the college had been selected as a specialist training centre for the 2012 Olympics

Olympic Swimmer Chris Cook visited the college in December 2012

Chris coached some of the College's top swimmers and gave them tips on improving their performance

The swimmers enjoyed the chance to put some of the skills they learnt into practice.

He also worked with some of the college's elite athletes on improving their mental performance.

Sixth former Jordan Dalrymple has been picked to be one of the 8000 Olympic torch bearers through his involvement in the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes programme

18-year-old Jordan has been to a number of Olympic events and will be an Olympic Torch Roadie in the 12 days leading up to the Opening ceremony as well as carrying the torch on July 23rd.

A group of 14 students were selected to be ball boys for the Olympic tennis competition. They were selected for their boys skills and have undergone six months training before taking to the courts at Wimbledon.

Enrichment Week at the end of the summer term focussed on activities encompassing the Olympic and Paralympic values
