Student Support
Care, guidance and support offered to our students was rated as outstanding in our most recent Ofsted report and our staff invest a considerable amount of resources into ensuring all students are able to progress at the speed that is right for them.
Year groups are divided up into smaller tutor groups headed up by a member of staff who will remain with that group of students for the five years they are at the college. These tutors and the Head of Year are responsible for the well-being of every individual student in their care and build up strong working relationships with both the boys and their parents during their time at Ernest Bevin.
Each student is tested when he joins the college and placed in a tutor group of an appropriate ability band. Tutor groups are organised in ability bands and initially most lessons will be held in these groups. A number of activities are organised through the year to ensure boys meet students in other tutor groups.
Students are issued with a school planner and they are expected to use it as a diary and a reference for what is required of them by the college. They should note down homework to be done and the tutor will check it each week. Parents are required to sign and check the planners too.
If parents are concerned with any issues they can write a note to the tutor in the planner or contact the tutor or head of year directly. Tutors and heads of year will monitor every students' progress and parents will be invited in for parent meetings and receive a termly report. We strongly encourage parents to support their son's education at Ernest Bevin and believe that their involvement is vital for success.
